| The five words that chills the bones of every artist... "My kid could do that." Alright, I'm not going to deny that most children could do this one. I mean all I did was glob paint on my putty knife, smear it around, then fling paint from tubes and ink from pens and containers. So what makes this work so good? Answer: The intellect behind my motives. I painted this with the intent of conveying a non-objectively subject that is a constant state of transition from one form to another. The only thing in common with me and your kid is that we're both having a hell of a good time flinging paint on a canvas. I'm not denying that some children are prodigies who can convey subjects non-objectively but for the majority of children out there who are not artistically gifted, I am going to proceed with my broad and objective statement. Yes, your child could paint this. But they didn't. I'm tired of ignorant people running their mouths off about things they either no nothing about or feel inferior to. I mean, I wanted to stab myself with a paintbrush when I heard that people were paying outrageous amounts of money to buy "art" painted by an elephant. I know it may look similar to a Pollock but Pollock had passion and intellect behind his strokes and he was practically a god in the realm of non-objective painting. I'm not saying that the elephant didn't make some nice paintings; I'm just saying that there has to be intellect behind non-objective work or it's just a bunch of paint or pixels mindlessly spread over a canvas. Any moron can fling paint on a canvas. Only an artist can give it rhyme and reason. Fight anti-intellectualism! |
